Ein Testspiel vor 6866 Zuschauern in Wilhelmshaven beendet gestern Abend die Karriere von Torsten Frings als Profi von Werder Bremen. Der Mann, der ihm einst den Spitznamen »Lutscher« verpasste, verabschiedet Frings für uns.
Ich kann mich noch gut daran erinnern, wie 1997 ein junger Kerl von Alemannia Aachen bei uns in Bremen auftauchte. 20 Jahre alt und kein bisschen leise – das war Torsten Frings. Ich merkte gleich, dass er eine großartige Technik hatte, der Ball gehorchte ihm und mit solchen Fußballern spielt man halt gerne in einer Mannschaft zusammen. Außerdem hat mir imponiert, wie er schon bei der ersten Trainingseinheit kein Blatt vor den Mund nahm: Grätsche ihm jemand in die Hacken oder spielte ihm den Ball schlecht zu, dann setzte er gleich das verbale Tackling an: »Ey, du Lutscher« – das war seine liebste Beleidigung. Lutscher Bode, Lutscher Labbadia, Lutscher Herzog – für ihn waren wir alle »Lutscher«. Klar, dass damit sein Spitzname vorprogammiert war. Den hab ich ihm gerne verpasst.
Trotz seiner großen Klappe konnte man ihm nicht böse sein. Ich hatte schon befürchtet, dass ihm Dieter Eilts irgendwann im Training die Beine brechen würde, aber die Angst war unbegründet. Torsten hat zwar auf alles »gepfiffen«, wie wir in Österreich sagen, aber er tat das auf eine Art, die uns immer fast zum Lachen brachte. Wenn er in seinem Lutscher-Modus war, musste ich meistens innerlich schmunzeln. Das war sein großes Plus, sonst hätte er vermutlich wirklich mal einen hinter die Ohren bekommen!
Ich hätte ihn gerne in meinem Rücken gewusst
Ganz entscheidend waren allerdings seine Fähigkeiten auf dem Platz: Man merkte sofort, dass er ein Spieler war, der uns weiterhelfen würde. Aus Aachen kam er als gelernter Stürmer, Thomas Schaaf ließ ihn allerdings schon bald als Außenverteidiger spielen. Das machte er so gut, dass er einfach in der Defensive blieb. Seine jetzige Stammposition, der klassische Sechser in der Mittelfeldraute, übernahm er allerdings erst nach seiner Rückkehr nach Bremen 2005. Da war ich schon längst nicht mehr bei Werder. Schade, ihn hätte ich gerne als Absicherung in meinem Rücken gewusst.
Dass Werder ihm seinen Vertrag nun nicht mehr verlängert hat, finde ich sehr bedauerlich. Torsten ist ein großer Spieler. Er stand im WM-Finale 2002, im EM-Finale 2008 – als Österreicher kann ich von solchen Spielen ja nur träumen! Ich wünsche ihm, dass er so lange weiter Fußball spielt, wie es sein Körper zulässt, denn die Zeit als aktiver Profi ist die schönste im Leben eines Fußballers. Das weiß ich aus eigener Erfahrung. Vielleicht macht er es ja wie ich und geht zum Abschluss seiner Laufbahn in die USA. Meine Zeit bei den Los Angeles Galaxy war auf jeden Fall sehr interessant.

At under L50 I think this was a bargain. Top marks to Amazon;both items are first class and deliveries were made exactly as advised.
